Universal Screener
To meet the state requirement outlined in Education Code 53008, all California school districts must adopt a Universal Literacy Screener for students in grades K–2. As part of this requirement, VESD will use Amira to screen and monitor early literacy development in students.

Universal Screener Overview:
-
This screener is required by the CDE to be administered once per year to all K-2 students, as well as any new students who enter throughout the year.
-
It takes approximately 15 minutes per student.
-
It can be administered individually or in small or whole group settings.
-
Currently, the new screener does not replace the district benchmarks— it satisfies new state legislation
